Mission statement
Guiding educational principles
The Private University College of Education of the Diocese of Linz is committed to a comprehensive and holistic view of education. This view respects the self esteem, the uniqueness and the inaccessibility of the individual, qualities which may not always be categorised in terms of achievement or feasibility. By education is meant the dialogical process of initial, in-service- und supplementary teacher training.
The intention is to equip the individual with the necessary skills to develop their own personality, to participate in and help to form a society based on the principle of solidarity.
A scientific and international approach
The Private University College of Education of the Diocese of Linz is committed to creating and teaching a range of academic courses. Quality is our watchword with respect to both teaching and research and we encourage an independent, creative, and reflective approach in all departments. We encourage the exchange of ideas and people particularly on a European, but also on a worldwide level and are ready and willing to face the challenges of global development.
A practice-oriented approach to training
The Private University College of Education of the Diocese of Linz strives to provide appropriate, practically orientated training and a combination of theory and practice to suit the variety of professional fields for which training at the college is offered.
Our aim is continual professional growth in the dynamic field of personality development, subject competence and pedagogical challenge. At the centre of our efforts are all the pedagogical target areas which form the basis of our work at the Private University College of Education of the Diocese of Linz.
Academic culture
Respect for others and dialogue characterise daily life at the Private University College of Education of the Diocese of Linz. It is this which enables us to foster a positive approach to learning and teaching, and to enable our students to act freely in a socially responsible way. Our college is a place of education, interdisciplinarity and cooperation, and strives to encourage a spirit of openness between people from different social environments, traditions, generations, sexes, cultures and philosophies.
Church-maintained status
The Private University College of Education of the Diocese of Linz is maintained by the Austrian Catholic Church and our philosophy of education is based on a humanistic-Christian world view and its values. One facet of this is an acceptance of the religious dimension of the individual, which may be expressed in a multiplicity of ways, and which strives to promote tolerance.
As a Christian centre of education, we encourage socio-political debate, in particular on peace education, justice, respect for the dignity of the individual and safeguarding creation. In the field of education the Private University College of Education of the Diocese of Linz is committed in particular to the development of communicative and linguistic competencies and debate on personal development, the Arts and culture.
