L100 - Teaching English through Drama · Creative Activities and Lesson Plans for the English Language Classroom

Educational drama is a holistic approach to learning, which has proven to assist with developing speaking confidence, fluency, vocabulary and syntactic knowledge in language learning. Since drama allows learners to become ‚someone else‘, they can identify with roles and situations. Through the methods of drama students also learn cooperation, develop creativity and are equipped with many other tools with which to communicate meaning. By using different sources (e.g. texts, pictures, etc.) this practical workshop will introduce various drama education techniques.

L109 - The Power of Story in the EFL Classroom · Using narratives to enhance foreign language acquisition

This seminar is a course and discussion on how literature, be it short story, poetry, or novels, can be integrated as language teaching material into the EFL classroom. This seminar addresses current educational expectations and trends, which on one hand, promote multi-perspectivity, but on the other hand, demand accuracy and precision measured by standardized testing. Using literature in the classroom is one fundamental way to support not only the curriculum requirements but also literacy and critical thinking skills.

L118 - The Gift of the Gab · Games and activities for the EFL classroom

The purpose of this seminar is to supplement regular EFL – or L2 classes for young and adult learners alike. The games and activities described serve as an addition to coursebooks in order to breathe some life into them and „spice“ them up. The emphasis is on interaction and communication, trying to boost the learners' confidence and break the ice, so as to make them confident users of L2. Above all, the suggested activities will provide learners with a natural incentive to speak and give them ample leeway to practise and experiment with the target language.

L904 - Galway Goodies 2021 · CLIL Seminar for teachers

L906 - Getting Back on Track · Motivating tricks and brush up techniques for the new school year

The main emphasis will be on our own speaking abilities. There will be sufficient input of ideas and speaking activities, which can also be done in the class at different levels. We will indulge in small talk on various topics, express personal opinion on current topics, exchange practical tasks used in today's English classroom and enjoy outdoor and indoor activities to motivate pupils to talk. „Learning by Doing“ is our motto, and it will be shown how very little preparation is required: minimum input, maximum output!
